Terry Stacey was 5 dan and twice British Champion. He was killed in a motorcycle accident on 29th February 1988. In his memory the BGA set up an annual competition. In each open, even game, BGA recognised tournament in the UK during the year ending at the British Go Congress, a point is scored for each win achieved above the McMahon bar.
