The Nihon Ki-in have announced that Noriyuki Nakayama, 6dan professional, died on 16th February 2010 aged 77. He was a well known and much loved professional teacher at many European and American Go Congresses and author of the book "The Treasure Chest Enigma".

When President Obama visited China in November 2009 he presented Preident Hu Jintao with a Go or Weiqi set. It consisted of a US-made wooden board and Chinese jade stones in American glass bowls, showing a fusion between the culture and skills of the two countries. You can see see the board being made in the AGA E-Journal report. No doubt Obama's knowledge of Chinese culture gained through this gift helped when he met the Dalai Lama on 18th February 2010.

After the Coventry and Bracknell events, Tony Atkins was leading, but then the long events started with the Scottish Open scoring 6, Durham 5 and Barmouth 5 for defending champion Yohei Negi. Matthew Macfadyen won Swindon and Shrewsbury to move into second. Matthew then won the Wessex and MK to go top, but Yohei evened the score at the Three Peaks. After Cheshire:

- Gerry Mills 15.5
- Toby Manning 14.5
- Alex Kent, David Lee 13
Cheshire returned after a year gap for the British in Chester and ran again alongside the Frodsham Chess Tournament.

Wanstead Tournament
Wanstead returned to its old early year spot, but kept the same Wanstead House venue in East London. Matthew Macfadyen got his first tournament win of the year. Other players winning all three were: Mike Cumpstey (3 kyu Manchester), Eric Hall (5 kyu Swindon) and Gary Gibson (7 kyu Wanstead). 32 players took part.
