2014 UK Go Challenge

  • The results from the finals are now available. The finals were on Saturday 21st June in Milton, near Cambridge. 25 players took part, both those who had not played in a heat and those that had. It was won by Melchior Chui from Cambrdige.
  • Tournament packs were sent out and heats were run in Cambridge and at Milton, in Letchworth, Burgess Hill and at the National Youth Squad training day. I hope you did not miss the fun!
  • The national Finals were on Saturday 21st June at Milton near Cambridge.
    Entry fees to the finals were reduced to £4 and £6 thanks to the Cambridge Youth Go Project, who are celebrating this year the 10th anniversary of the Milton School Go Club and the 20th anniversary of the Junior Chess and Go Club.
  • Cambridge Chess and Go's heat had 25 players. Melchior Chui was first, with David Robson second and Alexander Hsieh, Wenzhou Mei and Edmund Smith equal third.
  • Milton Primary School's heat also had 25 players. It was won by Wenzhou Mei with five straight wins. Second was Edmund Smith and close behind were Aarav Gandhi and Kelda Smith.

2013 UK Go Challenge

  • The results from the finals are available. The finals were on Saturday 6th July in Milton, near Cambridge. 23 players took part, both those who had not played in a heat and those that had. It was won by Oscar Selby from Epsom, who also recently was a finalist in "Child Genius" on Channel 4.
  • Heats were held at Sandilands, Milton and Cambridge Juniors.
  • The Cambridge Junior Chess and Go Club heat had 31 players. Melchior Chui was clear champion this year with David Robson second and Edmund Smith third.
  • Milton Primary School, near Cambridge, had 24 players in their heat. The winner was Edmund Smith, second was his sister Kelda and third was the 2012 winner Mark Slatter.

2012 UK Go Challenge is Over

  • The results from the finals are now available. The finals were on Sunday 24th June in Cambridge. 22 players took part, both those who had not played in a heat and those that had. It was won by Satoru Oshima from Brighton who is 1 dan yet only 8 years old.

2012 UK Go Challenge Heats

  • The Cambridge Junior Chess and Go Club heat had 26 players. At the end there was a tie between Peran Truscott, Melchior Chui and Roella Smith all on 13 points; Peran won the play-off and is the champion.
  • Milton School, a junior school near Cambridge, had 22 players in their heat. The winner was Mark Slatter with 15 points, 5 straight wins.
  • Sandilands Primary School, in South Manchester, ran their first heat. The winner was Robbie Jesson.

  • The heat at Milton Primary School near Cambridge was won by Kelda Smith, had 21 players. Martin England was second and the 2010 winner Mark Slatter was third. Miranda Steele placed fourth.


  • The heat at Cambridge Junior Chess and Go Club was again won by Roella Smith. Melchior Chui was this year's runner up.

2010 UK Go Challenge Finals

  • Again, thanks to Winton Capital Management, there was up to £500 of prizes at the finals. The finals were at St Mary's Priory RC Junior School, in Harringay, London, on Saturday 10th July. See the 2010 UK Go Challenge Finals report for more details.

2010 UK Go Challenge Results

  • 10 schools and clubs entered the Challenge, so over 200 children took part. The heat winners got a trophy as well as the top prize (key ring or wallet).


  • The heat at Milton Primary School near Cambridge had 21 players. The winner was 8-year-old Mark Slatter, one of the youngest players, with 5 straight wins. Second was Isis de Chastelain.


  • The heat at Cambridge Junior Chess and Go Club had 20 players. Roella Smith was the winner on tiebreak from Peran Truscott after they both finished on 4 wins out of 5.
