How to join the British Go Association

The BGA promotes and publicises Go, supports young players, encourages the formation of new clubs, and provides equipment and publicity for tournaments.

Membership entitles you to:

  • a year’s subscription to the British Go Journal
  • a bi-monthly newsletter (paper or electronic)
  • reduced entry fees for tournaments
  • the right to purchase books and equipment from the BGA bookseller
  • the right to play in the British Championship and represent the UK internationally
  • access to names of other members in your area with the view to forming a Go club
  • the ability to receive the AGA's ejournal member edition
  • the ability to join in the BGA's training activities, such as the Shodan Challenge
  • the right to use other BGA services, as appropriate

Concessions apply in the UK to those who are:

  • under-18s
  • in full-time education
  • receiving unemployment benefit
  • old enough to be eligible to collect the State pension

USA members may make payment through the AGA (BGA members can also join the AGA through the BGA).

Membership Payments to the British Go Association

Membership payments may be made by sterling (UKP) cheques or drafts only, or by using Paypal. Credit and debit card and other email transfer are not available.

Cheques should be payable to "British Go Association".

To reduce the impact of bank charges or for convenience, multiple membership of up to five years is possible by paying in advance at current rates.

Our Paypal account name is bgasubscriptions@yahoo.co.uk (this is not an email address for contact). Our account can receive payment from Paypal credit balances, Paypal echeck, Paypal instant bank transfer or by debit or credit cards. Payment must be made in UKP (pound sterling).

When submitting your Membership Form, send a cheque (made payable to the “British Go Association”) or the Paypal reference, as appropriate, to the Membership Secretary.

Alternatively you can pay cash or by cheque at most tournaments.

What you need to do

  1. Print out the membership form (11kB PDF, A4 size).
