Promotions

Andrew Grant had been promoted to 3 dan and Ruud Stoelman was confirmed as 2 dan.

European GP

The European GP circuit ended to be replaced in 2000 by the Toyota European Go Tour. Details of major european events were available via the egf web site.

Professional Visits

From 14/09/99 to 19/09/99 Miss Umezawa Yukari (Japan 3p) and Miss Inori Yoko (Japan 4p) were in England. They were at Wanstead Club on 16/09/99 and the Nippon Club on 17/09/99. At Milton Keynes Tournament on 18/09/99 they commented on British Championship game 2. Matthew Macfadyen came back from behind to beat Matthew Cocke by 2.5 points.

Shigeno Yuki (Japan/Italy 2p) taught go to children in south east England between 15/10/99 and 24/10/99. She was at the Wanstead/Youth Small Board on 16/10/99, at the Teach the Teachers day on 17/10/99, at schools/clubs in High Wycombe, Bracknell, London and Cambridge, and on 23/10/99 she commented on British Championship game 3 where Matthew Macfadyen beat Matthew Cocke to retain the title (3-0).

Cho Hun-Hyun (Korea 9p) attended the MSO and lectured and played 10 on 1 simultaneous. He was assisted in translation by Nam Chihyoung (Korea 1p).

AGI Ski Trip

AGI were planning this for 16/12/99-02/01/00 at "milky way" Sestriere.

Teach Yourself Go

This book from Hodder by Charles Matthews is ideal for a beginner trying to teach themselves go and is available from BGA Books. Local libraries should be encourage to stock it.

Go Tuition

Guo Juan returned for a strong players' weekend in London 19/06/99-20/06/99. 14 players 42 dan in strength attended.

National Trainer Matthew Macfadyen was running private seminar days and a scheme to teach by email. He hoped to be teaching a Summer School Course at Marlborough School again in 1999.

AGM

At the BGA AGM Alex Rix stood down as President after nearly 8 years. He has been replaced by Alison Jones. The meeting decided to increase subscriptions to 12 pounds (UK) for 2000, but not to introduce life membership. Other topics discussed included overseas travel grants and kyu gradings.

Pair Go Promotion Partners

A new scheme was launched to support Pair Go, the British PGPP. For a minimum donation of 50 pounds members got benefits that include free entry to the Pair Go Championships at Stokenchurch on 23/05/99 and acknowledgement as supporters of Pair Go.

French Ski Trip

18/04/99-24/04/99 in Isere. Go instruction by Guo Juan/Skiing instruction.

Promotions

David Woodnutt has been promoted to 2d.

Pro Teaching Tour

Yajie Liu from China completed her three month visit to Britain to teach go and learn better English. She visited Bath, Plymouth, Cornwall, Cambridge and Scotland before leaving in early February.
