The 2009 British Youth Go Championships will be held at
King Edward VI (Aston) School, Frederick Road, Aston, Birmingham, B6 6DJ
(close to the Aston Villa football stadium and just two minutes drive from J6 on the M6)
The entry fee is £5; payable on the day.
Registration will be from 9.15am to 9.45am and the first round will commence promptly at 10am.
The prize giving will be completed by 5pm.
NB Refreshments will be provided for adult helpers (and chauffeurs) but otherwise there are no catering facilities at the venue and all participants are asked to bring with them drinks for the day and a packed lunch.
The title of British Champion will be contested in six age-groups (under-18, under-16, under-14, under-12, under-10 and under-8) as well as the title of overall British Youth Champion. The school or youth club team with the best performance will win the title of British Schools Champions and the Castledine Trophy.
The Youth tournament is open to anyone under 18 on 31st August 2008 or still in full-time secondary education on the day of the tournament. Your age on 31st August 2008 determines your age group for championship purposes. Only British citizens can win the titles, but any other UK resident can attend and win other prizes. The titles will be decided by even games, but players who are out of the running will play handicap games, so that everyone has the chance to win a prize.
The organisers are very keen to attract young players of all strengths, and beginners are particularly welcome. If you have only recently learned to play Go, we will make sure that you play others at a similar level, on 13x13 boards or with suitable handicaps.
