** CHS **

This web page - - shows the BGA info. that relates specifically to CHS' school Go club.
It shows what's coming up, that's of interest to CHS students. CHS runs Go Clubs in the Juniors and in the Seniors. Junior School club meets on Tuesdays, after school. Senior School club meets in room L1.4, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, both at lunch-times and after school.
Below, you'll see some other activities that the keener Seniors (and occasional Junior) engage in.

British Youth Go Championship

Saturday 1st December. Venue: King Edward VI Aston School, Aston, Birmingham. CHS are as ever taking a minibus to this - the main annual youth-only tournament. The minibus is prob. full by now, but you could enquire with the Go teachers.

London Open Go Congress

28-31 December. Venue may be full now. Please make own travel/accommodation arrangements; one sixth-former has already done so. More details on BGA Calendar (see links below).

Saturday 2nd February. Frodsham Community Centre, Fluin Lane, Frodsham, Cheshire, WA6 7QN. CHS has booked minibus(es). More Info

Cambridge Junior Chess and Go Club's 25th Year Special

Saturday 2nd March (provisional). Cambridge (more details here, once exact premises are known). Their aim is to make this very welcoming to all, including youngsters and weaker players. Hence expect a minibus from Cheadle Hulme School.

British Go Congress (BGC) - central Manchester!

Saturday 6th - Sunday 7th April. This is a fantastic venue for the N-W, and the BGC is the best-supported event on the BGA's calendar. Held annually, it moves around the UK to a different town each year. Venue: MacDonald Hotel, Manchester. Address: London Road, Manchester M1 2PG. Short walk from Piccadilly Station. Hotel tel. 0344 879 9088. Google map. Current BGA thoughts are that Mr+Mrs Harvey will take all CHS kids by train. All would meet each morning at the "P5" pub car park, then proceed in 1 group, by train. Then each evening, Mr+Mrs H. would accompany all by walk+train back to meet parents at the "P5" pub car park again. More info. expected soon.

British Pair Go Championships

Saturday 8th June. An annual favourite with CHS students so CHS is, once again, taking a minibus. Venue as in previous years: Red Lion, 88 Great North Road, Hatfield, Hertfordshire, AL9 5EU Tournament for teams of one male and one female; play alternately; no conferring. The top 8 "British" pairs play for the title. Remaining pairs play in the handicap section. Registration by 10:15. Prize-giving by 16:30. More about PairGo

Summer Residential Camp (2019)

Date tbc, but usually over 3 days in August/September. Venue: PGL Caythorpe Court, Lincolnshire. This is an annual event, started in 2017. In 2018, 20 youngsters went (Y6 to Y12), including 7 from CHS. This is BGA event, not a CHS one. Mr +Mrs Harvey & 3 other BGA adults - including Alison Bexfield, the UK Youth squad captain - ran Go-teaching sessions, and 4 outdoor activities were run by PGL staff. Contact Mr Harvey with any queries, on martin.harvey at Sample entry details from 2018 Photo & report from the 2018 camp

CHS Ranking List

Please take a look at the CHS Ranking List, to see where CHS players now stand in Europe
- e.g. currently the top CHS Go-player - Tom Bradbury (Y13) - is the first from CHS to enter the Top 2,000 'EGF-placed' (European) players - out of all 44,722 Professionals, adults & youngsters! [I wonder who will be the second from CHS !]

Usual comments:

  • *** Parents MUST give consent via the Parental Portal, and in good time, for a student to be allowed on the school minibus ***
  • see the Junior Grading List for grades of all under age 18, who have played in a recent tournament & are 30-kyu or stronger (apols: it needs updating - work in progress!)
  • see the Youth Grand Prix if you've played in a 2018 tournament;
  • see the Annual DDK Grand Prix for players no stronger than 10 kyu at the start of this year;
  • see the BGA Calendar for full details of events listed above (& those that aren't).
  • ask Mr Winslow [Head of Physics] or Mr/Mrs Harvey if you have any queries, e.g. re Go badges, transport, how to improve, what to read (esp. CHS library), Go on YouTube, buying equipment, getting Go leaflets, forthcoming events, foreign tournaments ... you name it!
  • see the BGA junior section for all UK Youth news.
