Whitewashed by Austria

The 3rd season of the Pandanet Go European Team Championship has begun, with the UK team again in League B. The team is largely the same as before, but at the top features the addition of Vanessa Wong 6d, current European Women's Champion, who will hopefully help us improve on our position of 5th place last season.

Unfortunately our campaign got off to a bad start, losing 0-4 to Austria.

Vanessa had to drop out so new team member Martha McGill stepped up to play on board 4 against Jürgen Suntinger. She got a bad result in the first corner fight and tried to catch up with a series of rather ambitious attacks which didn't work so she resigned.

On board 1 Chong Han lost by resignation against Viktor Lin in a game of many ko fights.

David Lee also lost on board 3 against Shayan Hamrah, making rather too many weak groups.

With all other 3 boards lost by resignation, Andrew Simons was as usual last to finish and looked on course for a consolation victory, but made one too many mistakes towards the end of the game and lost by 7.5 points against Lothar Speigel.
