UK Team Lose to Netherlands
The UK team played well against a very strong Netherlands team in the second match of the season, but lost three games to one, with Damen Woo being the only winner and Bruno's long game ending with him half a point behind. This meant losing the top position in the B-League earned in round one.
Damen Woo wrote about his game against Rob van Zeijst: Rob played a solid game with no inaccuracies or blunders, though some moves in the opening were slightly slow. The advantage I gained in the opening led Rob to adopt a more aggressive approach in the middle game. I defended effectively and maintained my lead, finished with 11.5 points ahead.
On board two, Scott Cobbold wrote about his game against Gilles van Eeden: I got a good lead at the start when I got the better end of a trade but later on under time pressure I went too far and ended up losing a big dragon.
Jake Game wrote about his game against Frank Janssen: Seemed like the game went quite well for me for a long time. However I lost in the end perhaps being over defensive.
Bruno Poltronieri wrote: I lost to Michiel Eijkhout by half a point... We had several running groups after the middle game and it seems I gave my opponent too much territory to try some attacks which didn't really pay off. I did my best in the endgame and caught up by making a decent centre territory, but my endgame wasn't quite good enough and I lost by 0.5.
