UK Team Lose to Croatia
All the games in the UK team's third match ended in resignation. Unfortunately it was three-one in Croatia's favour, with Bruno's long game ending with him being the only UK winner. This loss moved the team down from third to seventh in the B-League. Italy won again (against Finland) to stay at the top, with Netherlands beating Lithuania to take second place.
Scott Cobbold wrote about his game: I gained a large lead when my opponent, Stjepan Medak, overplayed near the start. I just needed to keep the game simple, but I let my group get in danger and under time pressure lost a large group of stones.
Jake Game wrote about his game against Roko Crvelin: I was completely obliterated in my game, though it was very enjoyable. It seemed my opponent made no mistakes, which almost certainly cannot be true. However it did feel like it.
Bruno Poltronieri wrote: I won by resignation against the Croatian captain, Mirta Medak. It was a long game with a long opening where we each went after a large area. Then fighting inevitably broke out in the centre and it didn't go my way. White saved her group by capturing my cutting stones while reducing my area. I saved my group too but the tail of my dragon was still up for grabs, so I think I was behind at that point. The next fight did go my way though and I got sente to take the last few big points.
Ryan Zhang played despite feeling unwell but lost his game against Tadej Petar Tukara by resignation. It was an exciting game where Ryan fell a bit behind after the opening, but then found a nice kill. Unfortunately that kill turned into a ko, so the profit was limited. Ryan resigned at that point, but it seems the game was still quite close!
