British Championship

Matthew Macfadyen beat Charles Matthew 3-0 in the best of five final. The first games were on 12/07/97 at the Daiwa Centre London and 27/07/97 at Freuds Oxford, the final game was played during the Milton Keynes Tournament on 13/09/97.

Central London Club

The new meeting place for the CLGC was the Daiwa Centre, 13-14 Cornwall Terrace NW1 (near Regent's Park/Baker Street) on Saturday afternoons. Players in smart dress will still be welcome to the Friday evening meetings at the Nippon Club but the club was no longer be meeting at the Rosemary Branch in Islington. There was also a Docklands Club at the Henry Adlington on Canary Wharf Tuesdays from 18:00.

EGF Presidency

Britain's Francis Roads was elected European Go Federation president at the meeting in Marseille.

Ing Chang-Ki

It has been reported that Ing Chang-Ki the Taiwanese millionaire and supporter of world-wide Go died on 27/08/97 aged 84.

Jim Sadler - 1 dan, Paul Hankin - 2 dan, David Ward - 3 dan.

Grand Prix 1996-1997

The Stacey Trophy for most games won above the McMahon bar was won by John Rickard. The Weak Knee Dan (two dan losing the most games) went to Simon Goss. There was no Youth Grand Prix so a special prize went to Thomas Blockley.

Go Tuition

National Trainer Matthew Macfadyen was running private seminars at weekends in Leamington during 1997, cost 40 pounds/session. Matthew was also running a scheme to teach by email.

European Go Journal

This had stopped publication and was to be replaced by a Newsletter.
