The UK team was promoted to the B-League of the Pandanet Go European Team Championship and ended round one in first position! They played Austria on Tuesday 15th October and won four games to nil, despite Austria having the strong player Victor Lin on board one. Second placed is Croatia who beat Netherlands despite a triple ko in one game. Italy beat Serbia to take third, earning penalty points for a no-show on board one. The other matches were drawn.

Michael Tik Wai Cheung, one of several new players to the team, wrote: I played against Viktor Lin with black stones. Throughout the game, I noticed some of his questionable moves (36, 62, 78), which I believe gave me a stronger position in the opening. However, during the middle game, I missed many of his strong moves (82, 86, 88, 148, 154, 156, 208) and, from that point, I felt like I was falling behind in points. Despite this, the AI suggests that black held the advantage for most of the game, and the 'good moves' I thought Viktor played were not supported by the AI's analysis. In the end, it was a rather fortunate win for me, and although I'm not entirely sure how I won, I gave it my best effort and am very pleased with the final result.

Scott Cobbold, who played his game three hours early, wrote: I played Peter Neubauer and at the start I think I got a bit of a lead after a few slow moves by him. After that though, he ended up dying with his corner. In the rest of the game I just had to parry his efforts to kill my long dragon and I was clearly ahead.

Jake Game, another new player, wrote: Hello, I had a great game with Lucas Maria Hofmann where I felt it was very close or perhaps I was losing. However a collapse in the center led to his resignation. Without checking the AI, I felt he could have kept playing potentially.

Bruno Poltronieri wrote: I played against Lisa Mayer and won by 35.5. I fell behind in the third corner when she played a joseki incorrectly, but I responded even more incorrectly, I think. After that I tried maybe a bit too hard with a dubious attack, but thankfully she answered all my moves and played some slow moves along the way. I caught up and then gained a lot of points in the endgame.
