Tournament Info

Games will be played on OGS online-go.com. Log in with the handle (user id) that you normally use. Go to the British Go Association Youth group online-go.com/group/4739. You should already be a member of the group.

This is not an "OGS Tournament" so ignore the Join a Tournament at the top.

Between 13:30 and 14:15 say "hello" in chat so that we know you are present and who you are.
Then stay around for the start at 14:30! It should end by 18:00. Let us know if you cannot play the next round if you have to stop.

There will be 3 rounds, the next starting as soon as the last round is over.
It is a McMahon tournament (bar at 2 or 3 kyu) with time limits of 10 minutes base time + 10 seconds per move Fischer time. Games are even unless a handicap is specified.

Pairings will appear on this page (see below). Look up your opponents id with the table. The player taking Black should challenge their opponent on OGS. If you cannot do it ask your opponent to challenge instead!

Now, in the list of players on the right, find your opponent (if present the dot will be green) - or find them in chat - and click on them (you might need to look through several pages of players to find them).

Clicking on the player will give a pop-up box, from which you can select the ‘Challenge’ button.

In the pop-up box select:

Game Name - not needed - but you can enter say e.g. "Squad Game 1"
Private - leave unticked

Rules - AGA (default)
Game Speed - Live (default)
Time Control - Fischer
Main Time - 10 minutes
Time increment - 10 seconds
Max Time - 10 minutes

Ranked - leave unticked
Board Size - 19x19 (default)
Handicap - None (default) - unless handicap specified on the draw
Komi - Automatic
Your Color - Black
Disable Analysis - tick

When challenged if you have sound on you will hear a message. A notice with blue dot will appear in the top right corner of your screen (you may have to scroll up to see it). Click on this - check the conditions are correct and click the tick to accept. Challenges are also shown on the home page.

Please play fairly. There should be no use of external aids such as AI software, joseki dictionaries, another player or anything else of the like. We are trusting people to play fairly! The "pause game" function should not be used apart from exceptional circumstances, such as a disconnection by the opponent.

Please note it is Chinese-style area scoring, but no pass stones are given, and so you should play all the dame before passing. Suicide is not allowed. Ko is repeated board position.

Their are three cases when "Undo" could be needed: 1. the server puts the stone one intersection away from where you intended, 2. an accidental click puts a stone in a ridiculous place away from the course of action, 3. you don't like your move. Requesting "Undo" is forbidden in 3. In 1. or 2., if accepted, you must play immediately on the correct intersection. A player does not have to accept an "Undo" request. Do not request "Undo" when the opponent is short of time (less than 5 minutes left).

At the end of the dame filling, both players pass, then check and accept the dead stones and get the result.

When your game is over tell us the winner in chat in case we are not watching your game!
