Having your club games included on the ratings list

At various times there have been people who've asked about changing the rating system (the European Go Database) to have their club games included. Actually, it's always been possible for you to do so, provided you follow a few rules.

The EGD description allows for a Class C event as follows:

<

pre> Casual or club tournament recognized by EGF member Time limit requirements: adjusted time minimum 30 minutes, basic time minimum 25 minutes; (Fischer time: basic time 20 mins, adj.

Accommodation at EYGC and BGC

Already our discounted accommodation has sold out and Butlins own discounted rate ends today, 4th February. We are sorry that accommodation is selling fast but the warm UK weather is encouraging people to take winter holidays in the UK!

Latest advice on accommodation is at http://www.britgo.org/eygc2014/accommodation with options for parties of 4 or 6.

If you are a single or a couple then there are various hotels in Bognor and also guest houses, but some of these are running low on availability (some links from out accommodation page).

New Online Study Group

The Online Study Group (formerly Shodan Challenge) will be starting on 29th November and running for six weeks. Players of any strength who wish to improve their go-playing abilities are very welcome!

You are encouraged to choose a goal to work towards for six weeks, and a study plan to follow during that time. Using the group, you can arrange matches with players of similar strengths, request / offer teaching games, or discuss variations of a game you have played or watched. There will be a league system in place to help you find opponents of around your strength.

(Stronger players are also encouraged to join to help review games and offer advice. Please note that you are only committing to six weeks at a time, and you are not assigned individual students to mentor, so the level of commitment required is low!)

To sign up, please send an email to me with your name and approximate rank (if applicable).

Resumption of BGA Bookstall

Many of you will remember the fine work done by Gerry Mills, in taking a BGA bookstall to a large number of tournaments and on top of that providing a mail-order operation for books and sets.

Roger Huyshe is restarting this service, albeit in a smaller way as he points out that he cannot dedicate a whole room in the house to a large stock of Go books and equipment. So a mail-order service is not offered; the service is face-to-face.

He will bring the bookstall and sample boards to all tournaments that he attends. For those that plan ahead, they can ask for a specific item and find a way to manage delivery e.g. at a later tournament or via another Go player.

All profit goes to the BGA.

Old tournament results

We're pleased to announce that old tournament results have now been linked to the Tournament Records on our website. This will allow you to easily browse details of old events for each tournament, going back to 1996 in many cases.

See the London Open for an example.

New Members Section now live

As previously announced in the British Go Journal and elsewhere we are pleased to launch the new Members' Section for our website.

This will contain

  • electronic versions of the British Go Journals for the last year - PDFs, SGFs and Problems/Solutions
  • Council Meetings and Annual General Meeting Minutes
  • Annual Accounts
  • Policies
  • Archive contents

In addition there is a document approved by Council about the initial version of this Members Area.

The Ratings List and Organisers Handbooks will continue to be publicly available, together with some of the Policies which may be clearly relevant to non-members (such as Child Protection).

Council will review the operation and contents of this area, probably initially in 3-4 months time, so if you have any comments please let us know.

In order to minimise the effort expended in managing usernames/passwords, and given that the security level needed is fairly low, there will be initially a single account for all member
