Contributions are always welcome, both from our members and others. We ask that they be Go-related and "newsy". The place for debate and general discussion is the BGA open mailing list Gotalk. However, an introduction to a new topic is fine in the Newsletter. A brief introduction to Gotalk, with a link for joining, is on the BGA page Go on the Internet.

Instructions for Contributors: Please use plain text not file-attachments. Keep it fairly brief, and give web-links and contact details. It's good to include pictures. If they are on the internet, send the URL, otherwise attach the picture files to your email. Send your contribution to newsletter-editor@britgo.org to arrive by the first day of the month.

2026 BGA British Championship

The 2026 BGA British Champion was decided by games on 11th and 18th July. Zeyu Qiu 6D (LGC) beat Becky Li 3D (UCL) 2-0 at the London Go Centre with the games starting at 11:00.

The games were streamed to "LGC Account" on OGS and a commentary was also provided by Damen Woo 7D (Nottingham) on BGA's YouTube channel. Game 1 Game 2

European Women's Go Championship

This prestigious event is being held this year at the London Go Centre on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October. It is open to any female player of European nationality of any level. More Info/Enter

Global News

European Go Congress

The 2026 European Go Congress is currently taking place in Turkey. After 5 rounds, 2 UK players are in the top 5: Li Yuanzhen 7D (UCL) and Bao Yifan 7D (Warwick University). Also, Yuanzhen Li won the weekend tournament with Yifan Bao coming fourth. Full results and standings can be found here.

The 2027 European Go Congress will be held in the Netherlands. More info here.

US Go Congress 2026

This was held in Boston, MA from the 25th July to the 1st August 2026. Jake Game 5D (Swindon) was among those taking part. Results can be found here.

2026 World Collegiate Weiqi Championship

The 10th Annual World Collegiate Weiqi Championship took place from the 7th to 13th July at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. Edmund Smith 1D (Warwick University) represented the UK and was one of 14 European students in attendance.

Samsung Cup 2026 Preliminary

This will take place in Incheon, South Korea from the 26th to 30th August 2026. Damen Woo 7D (Nottingham) will represent Europe.
