The 1998 British Small Board Go Championship took place in Milton Community Centre on Sunday 15th November 1998. It was part of the Cambridge Junior Chess and Go Club's annual congress. I think it was a great success, but then I organised it. I think that other people enjoyed it too. Michael Charles eventually won. We used the following handicap system which was my recollection of the official BGA system. Actually, I now think that the official BGA system has an even games as 9 komi, and then follow the pattern here. The general consensus was that this system favours the stronger player. I would recommend the system that Cambridge Go Club uses for its end of term tournaments instead.

And the obvious pattern continues. Time limits were 25 minutes. The tournament turned out to be a handicapped Swiss.

Michael Charles and Alan Thornton were tied on 5/6 at the end. As a tie break they had a play-off with 10 minutes on the clock and Michael won.
