We have just received the announcement of a very interesting tournament for students, organized by the Shanghai branch of the Ing Chang-ki Foundation. The tournament is open to any individual who is, has, or will attend University (both at the graduate and undergraduate level) in the 2014 calendar year. Exceptions can be made if the individual is taking time off from school, but is planning on continuing in the foreseeable future.
The Ing Foundation will pay for every student's: Room, board, travel within Hong Kong, tours and events planned by the Shanghai Ing foundation. The student will be responsible for their airfare to and from Hong Kong, as well as any nightlife, entertainment or souvenirs outside of the preplanned events.
The European Go Federation, the French Go Federation and the Go Seigen Club of Toulouse are happy to announce the 2014 European Student Go Championship that will be held at Balma near Toulouse, South West of France on September 27th & 28th 2014.
Our city has one of the largest number of students in France: around 100,000. It is as well a major place in Europe for Aeronautical, Space & Defense business.
All Go playing students are invited.
So far we've received more than 60 entries for these three events, but it's a little disappointing that we don't have any UK players in the Under-20 Championship yet, especially with the prize of a trip to the World Under-20 Championship in Japan.
The entries we do have for the Under-20 range from 2 dan to 6 dan in strength, so it's definitely going to be a challenging tournament for any entrant.
We'd like to see more UK players in all the events, so if you know of someone young who might like to play (there's no entry fee) please get in contact with them and persuade them to come along.
Just in case you haven't already heard:
The winner in the Under-20 category (age as at 1st January 2014) will gain a place in the GLOBIS Cup World Youth Go Championship, to be held in Japan on 8 - 11 May 2014 at the Graduate School of Management, GLOBIS University in Tokyo, Japan.
All expenses will be paid, with the exception of the flights.
The pages have been updated with more information and there are now entry forms for the EYGC and BGC online, together with the ability to pay for entry to the BGC, and a link for booking accommodation at Butlins.
Turkey seem to be our strongest opposition in League C the Pandanet European Go Team Championship.
We're playing them tonight, starting at the unusually early time of 7pm, so why don't you all come and watch on Pandanet IGS? We've managed to put out our strongest team, so cross your fingers...
We've just been informed that the 1st Zhu Gang Cup World Team Go Championship will be held from 19th to 26th December 2013 in Guangzhou City, Guang Dong province in China. The competition is composed of three kinds of teams: Seeded teams (China, Japan, Korea and Chinese Taipe), Wild Card teams (China, Japan and Korea) and Non-seeded teams. European players are invited to take part in this competition as non-seeded teams. The sponsors will pay for all costs in China, with players having to pay for their own travel arrangements.
We're trying to put together a UK team of three players (potentially with a non-playing captain), albeit at short notice and at an inconvenient time of year. If you're interested please get in touch with me and I'll send to the detailed information that we have. The closing date for us to submit our team is 9th December.
You will, of course, need to be a BGA member!
The BGA is to run the European Youth Go Championship 2014. It is being held on the weekend of 28th to 31st March 2014 at Butlin's in Bognor Regis, West Sussex. Young players from all over Europe are expected to attend and compete in three age categories. BGA members will be able to join the weekend as the British Go Congress is to be run alongside.
