One of the oldest events in the UK, this event was for many years run by Bristol club in the town hall in Marlborough in Wiltshire, a location chosen for easy driving in pre-motorway days. It then moved to Keynsham in 2006 and 2007, before settling down at St. Mark's Community Centre in Bath, with that club taking over running it up to 2018.
Special 50th Wessex Tournament weekend in 2019, at a hotel near Bristol, celebrating the memory of T Mark Hall. Previous winners and participants were encouraged to attend. Format: Saturday Lightning tournament, other events, evening meal. Sunday: 50th Wessex; 4-round McMahon tournament and lunch was included.
Returned to Bath in 2021 (25th October 2020 was cancelled).
It became a three-round McMahon, but formerly was four rounds, taking advantage of the extra hour of its traditional date, the Sunday summer time ends. 2019 was four rounds in memory of the early days. The tournament then reverted to three rounds.
The trophy was presented by Robnor Paints of Stratton St Margaret.
2024 was on 27th October: Registration 09:30 - 10:15 GMT; prize giving about 17:15.
